The HapsMap Privacy Policy outlines the nature of personal information and privacy with regard to use of the HapsMap Site and/or Service (as defined in our Terms of Use). To understand how we treat the information you provide us in using the HapsMap Site and Service, you should familiarize yourself with the HapsMap Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use. HapsMap is not responsible for any intercepted information sent via the internet, and you hereby release HapsMap from any and all claims arising out of or related to the use of intercepted information in any unauthorized manner. Personal Information:
Non-registered or Non-logged in
If you access the Site without having ever created a HapsMap account (or without logging in if you have registered at some previous time) you can still view much of the Site's information and content. You are also able to contact us regarding questions or comments you may have through the Contact page without having to create or log into a HapsMap Site account.
Registered and logged in
Other features of the HapsMap Site, such as posting happenings or comments of your own, will require you to have a HapsMap account. We require some personal information when you create a HapsMap account, including your name, date of birth, city, state and country. Of this information, your age, city and location will be visible on your profile page. You must additionally provide an email address you own and use and a password of your choosing. This information will be kept private and is used to protect your account from unauthorized access.
Content submitted to the Site
Any personal information, photographs or other content that you upload to the Site (in posted happenings, comments, or images etc.) becomes publicly available and can be viewed, collected and used by others. As such, never post any material that you would not be comfortable having available publicly to anyone else who may access the Site and Service. By accessing and using the HapsMap Site and/or Service, you acknowledge the possibility that any material you submit to the Site may be redistributed through the internet and/or other media channels. By submitting material to the Site, you surrender any and all legal rights to the material and acknowledge that the material is thereafter property of HapsMap.
Site/Service Access and Use:
Personal information we require
If you submit personally identifiable information to us where we specifically require it during the registration process, we will use it to help provide to you general and personalized features and functionality of the HapsMap Site and Service. A Display Name of you choosing (not your email address) is what will identify you to others accessing the Site and Service. This way, when you post happenings, upload images or post comments, others accessing the Site and/or Service will not be able to see the email address that you use to log into the Site.
Our use of registered Users' email addresses
We will not use your email address or other personally identifiable information for commercial solicitations or marketing messages without your consent. We may, however, use your email address (without further consent than your registration) for administrative or other non-commercial purposes (such as notifying you of major HapsMap Site changes). Go to the edit your preferences page to customize what - if any - email notifications you would like to receive from HapsMap.
Our use of non-personally-identifiable information
In addition to the personally-identifiable information you provide us, we will also use non-personally-identifiable information (such as anonymous usage data, cookies, IP addresses, browser type etc.) to improve the quality, design and functionality of the HapsMap Site and Service. We may also store, track and analyze the preferences, trends and activity of the Site's Users and Visitors (as defined by the Terms of Use) to further improve Site quality, design and functionality.
Publicly available account information
Once you have registered and created a HapsMap account, some information about your account may be publicly available to others on the Site through your posted happenings, posted comments, uploaded images and your Site profile page. This information may include your gender, age, state and city (if you choose to share any of this information on your Site profile). When you register and create a HapsMap account, you will also be able to set a profile picture for yourself that, in conjunction with your Display Name, will help identify your activity on the Site to others.
Advertising on HapsMap
HapsMap.com uses third-party advertising companies to serve ads on the Site. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. Registered vs. Non-registered Site use:
General
You are not obligated to submit any personally-identifiable information in order to access the HapsMap Site and view posted happenings. However, without creating an account and logging in, certain features of the Site will not be available to you. If you choose to register and create a HapsMap account, you may update your profile information and account preferences at any time by visiting the edit your profile and edit your preferences pages respectively.
